A note from Blair...
I was bribed into sneaking into a Yoga class at a gym just after I had just graduated high school in 2001. I had completely stereotyped Yoga as a practice for the Hippy Dippy Weirdo’s but was always up for a silly experience.
To my surprise I found that Yoga was just a bunch of stretching and breathing - but the amazing thing to me was all the stuff that happens when you continue to stretch and breathe. After taking that very first yoga class I was able to touch my toes, which had been unreachable for me in every fitness test in high school for the last 4 years, yet I could now reach the unreachable. After that mini-miracle I became a regular in the yoga class and found my body getting more toned. I developed muscles where I didn’t think muscles existed, my anger and anxiety completely faded away and my Ego was kicked out of the driver seat with my heart now leading the way. I understood other people better and stopped getting so offended by everything. My entire world changed and I became a different person inside and out just because I took that silly yoga class.
After a back injury I suddenly understood the suffering of so many others and knew what it was like to be told you were going to live with chronic back pain. My options were pain meds and/or steroids injected into my spinal fluid. I was horrified at my only two options and after 3 numb, painful and depressing months I decided I wasn’t going to accept a chronic pain diagnosis and went even deeper into the holistic world. I became reiki certified, began to use essential oil blends and had acupuncture treatments all while practicing a gentle yoga routine. I am now pain free, HAPPY and can jump right back into my handstands with ease.
I developed the Rogue Yoga blog for the old me. The old me that would have been turned off by the first sanskrit word uttered and would have accepted a doctor's diagnosis. This blog is here to help normal people like the old me transition into this much better way of life faster and easier - A Yoga for Dummies guide with tricks of the trade, fun facts and everything from recipes to yoga routines - All in Layman's terms.
